What does a Data Analyst earn in India?
About ₹5.2–5.7 lakh a year with 1–3 years’ experience, and ₹7.2–7.9 lakh with 3–6 years. That’s AmbitionBox, the largest public sample, as its page stood on 19 October 2026.1 Here is every band, and what it comes to a month.

Two bands rest on small samples: 0–1 year (30 salaries) and 6–9 years (58). That’s because the title changes as people grow. Freshers are often hired as Junior Data Analysts or MIS Analysts, and experienced analysts carry Senior or Lead titles. The next section follows those titles, because that’s where most of the money is.
Why the sources disagree
Indeed puts the average at ₹6,29,449 a year, from 545 salaries in job postings (updated 9 Oct 2026).3 PayScale’s average base salary is ₹5,77,472, from 2,389 profiles (updated 10 Jul 2026).4 AmbitionBox’s typical range for 0–6 years is ₹6.5–7.2 lakh, on about 1.5 lakh salaries.1 None of them is wrong: they count different people, and some count base salary only. Compare the same experience band on the same site.
All of these are yearly figures, mostly CTC (cost to company) as people report it. Your monthly in-hand pay is lower once PF and any income tax come out. Our Data Analyst salary guide for freshers works a ₹5 LPA offer through to in-hand pay, line by line, and covers first jobs in detail.
Pay by title, from first job to lead
Pay climbs with the title as much as with the years. These are the titles an analyst career usually passes through, with AmbitionBox’s figures for each.

Read across the 3–6 year rows. A Senior Data Analyst shows ₹11.6–12.8 lakh; the plain Data Analyst title shows ₹7.2–7.9 lakh. Same years, different scope: senior analysts usually own a business area, write the queries others reuse and present results to managers.
MIS work, mostly reporting in Excel, pays least and grows slowest: ₹3.4–3.7 lakh at 1–3 years and ₹4.2–4.6 lakh at 3–6.2 It’s a fair first job if you use it to learn SQL and Power BI, and then move on.
Entry pay has stood still while experienced pay rose. AmbitionBox shows the Junior Data Analyst average down 5% over the last two years, and the Data Analyst average up 16%.21 One rung across, roles that add machine learning pay more from the start: Data Scientists with 1–3 years show ₹11.3–12.5 lakh.5 Our Data Scientist salary guide sets every source for that role side by side.
By city: Bengaluru, Gurugram, Hyderabad and the rest
Gurugram pays Data Analysts the most on AmbitionBox, then Bengaluru and New Delhi, but the whole spread across India’s big cities is under ₹1 lakh a year.1
| City | Data Analyst, yearly pay | Salaries behind it |
|---|---|---|
| Gurugram | ₹7.1–7.9 L | 9,800 |
| Bengaluru | ₹6.9–7.6 L | 35,000 |
| New Delhi | ₹6.8–7.5 L | 11,100 |
| Hyderabad | ₹6.7–7.4 L | 18,300 |

| Mumbai | ₹6.4–7.1 L | 10,400 |

| Chennai | ₹6.3–7 L | 10,800 |
Source: AmbitionBox, Data Analyst salaries by city, all experience levels, updated 19 Oct 2026. Bengaluru (Bangalore) has the largest sample.
Indeed orders the cities differently. Its highest averages are Bengaluru at ₹7,76,641, Noida ₹7,66,414, Gurgaon ₹7,46,852 and Hyderabad ₹6,95,074, against ₹6,29,449 for India as a whole.3
The gap between cities widens with seniority. For Senior Data Analysts, AmbitionBox shows Bengaluru at ₹13.8–15.3 lakh, Gurugram ₹12.6–13.9 lakh, Hyderabad ₹12.4–13.7 lakh, Chennai ₹12.1–13.4 lakh and Pune ₹11.8–13.1 lakh.2 Before you choose between two offers in different cities, compare what’s left each month after rent, not the CTC.
By industry: where analysts earn most
Industry moves pay far more than city. On AmbitionBox, Data Analysts in banking earn ₹9.2–10.2 lakh a year, against ₹5.7–6.3 lakh in IT services and ₹4.4–4.9 lakh in BPOs.1
| Industry | Data Analyst, yearly pay | Salaries behind it |
|---|---|---|
| Banking | ₹9.2–10.2 L | 2,200 |
| Financial services | ₹9.2–10.1 L | 6,300 |

| FinTech | ₹8.1–8.9 L | 2,000 |

| Internet | ₹7–7.7 L | 6,900 |
| Marketing and advertising | ₹6–6.7 L | 1,900 |
| IT services and consulting | ₹5.7–6.3 L | 48,100 |
| Analytics and KPO | ₹5.6–6.2 L | 7,500 |
| BPO | ₹4.4–4.9 L | 2,800 |

Two cautions. IT services and consulting employ the most analysts in this data (48,100 salaries), so many first offers will come from there. And part of each gap is the mix of experience inside each industry. Still, knowing a domain pays, and finance is hiring freshers: in September 2026, fresher hiring in banking and financial services on Naukri rose 14% on the year, against 1% for fresher hiring overall.6
What moves a Data Analyst’s pay
Four things, roughly in this order: skills you can prove, AI on top of them, the scope you take on, and moving when your pay stops moving.
Skills employers list
AmbitionBox lists SQL, Excel, Power BI, Tableau, Python and machine learning among the top skills for Data Analysts.1 SQL comes first because it’s how analysts get data out of company databases, so expect it in interviews; our SQL interview questions show what gets asked. Python and machine learning are what separate the analyst bands from the Data Scientist ones above.5 On our program, the analyst tools are Modules 3 and 4 of the 6 core modules, on every plan: Excel, Power BI and pandas in about 30 hours, then SQL in about 11.
AI on top of them
Naukri’s AI Jobs Report found median salaries 53% higher for AI-skilled roles, with premiums of up to 56% for freshers (July 2025).7 Indeed found AI mentioned in 39% of data and analytics job postings in India (September 2025).8 The analysts who earn more use AI to draft queries and summaries faster, then check every number it gives them.
Scope, then a senior title
Ask for the work that leads to a senior title: owning a metric, building the dashboard a team runs on, presenting results to managers. At 3–6 years, that title is worth about ₹4–5 lakh a year on AmbitionBox’s figures.21
Moving, not waiting
Aon’s survey put India’s average salary increase at 9% in 2026, and projects 9.1% for 2027.9 At 9% a year, ₹5.5 lakh becomes about ₹7.8 lakh in four years. A move to a senior title, a better-paying industry or a data science role can do more than that in one step.
Go’s ₹6 LPA: a bar, not a promise
On our Data Science & AI Job Guarantee Program, the minimum salary assured is a threshold for the fee, not a forecast of your salary. On Go, our plan for Data Analyst roles, no fee after placement is due until a job pays at least ₹6 LPA in fixed annual pay. Employers set salaries; the bar only decides whether a job starts the fee.
Where it sits: above AmbitionBox’s 1–3 year band for Data Analysts (₹5.2–5.7 lakh) and below its 3–6 year band (₹7.2–7.9 lakh).1 First analyst offers below ₹6 lakh are common in the market, and on Go a job like that never starts the fee. The bar is measured on fixed pay, not CTC: basic pay and fixed allowances, without variable pay, bonuses or the employer’s PF. In the words of our FAQ:
The line your job’s pay must clear before anything is due after placement: ₹6 LPA on Go; ₹9 LPA or your salary + 35%, whichever is higher, on Plus; and ₹12 LPA or your salary + 85%, whichever is higher, on Infinity. A job below it never starts the fee. The salary option uses the fixed pay on your last 3 payslips when you complete, if it’s ₹25 LPA or less and you share them.
- Measured on fixed annual pay
- Below it, the fee never starts
- A threshold, not a salary promise
